An EMDR Intensive Is Ideal For You If:
You have experience with traditional talk therapy and want to take things deeper.
Traditional 50-minute, weekly therapy doesn’t work with your schedule, and you want focused attention to heal from the past.
You have experienced a recent traumatic event and want to be sure there are no lasting impacts.
You need more support than weekly sessions can offer.
You have been wanting to go to therapy for a while but can’t find how to fit it into your schedule.
You are new to therapy and know that you work best with intensive models.
What’s included?
EMDR Intensives help you experience a sense of completion.
Intensives result in a decreased need to manage symptoms in between therapy sessions, an ability to move on with your life in a matter of days instead of months of therapy, and increased connection in relationships and day-to-day life.
Other advantages include less time in sessions opening and closing things down and more time to focus on the trauma with fewer distractions from work, family and other day-to-day stressors. Your undivided attention is on the EMDR intensive.
Pre-Intensive Intake
We’ll schedule a 90-minute intake session to determine your goals for the intensive and prepare for the experience. During this intake, we'll identify painful memories, beliefs, emotions, and images from which you are seeking relief.
2. Personalized Intensive Resources
Each EMDR Intensive includes personalized assessments and activities to prepare for the intensive. This includes best practices leading up to the intensive, integration, and follow-up. Track all your new resources and progress in one place.
3. Custom-Designed Therapy Intensive
The EMDR Intensive sessions take place in person in Brooklyn. Designed to meet your personalized treatment goals with resourcing activities customized for you specifically. You can also combine an EMDR Intensive with Ketamine-Assisted Therapy.
4. Post-Intensive Integration Session
We’ll meet again a week after the intensive for 60-90 minutes to debrief the experience, reflect on areas of insight and growth, and discuss ways to keep the momentum going.
Unlike EMDR intensives, traditional therapy can be a lengthy and expensive process.
During a traditional 50-minute therapy session you’ll usually spend:
10-15 minutes of grounding and checking in from the last session
20-30 minutes EMDR reprocessing
10-15 minutes of closing the session
At this rate, you’ll probably spend a month working on one specific stressor, costing around $1,000 for four weekly therapy sessions. But, in reality, life happens. And you’ll most likely end up having different stressors and minor issues to focus on in the week-to-week shift between sessions. You might be stressed from work. Or be short on sleep and be too tired to do EMDR reprocessing. Normal life impacts your ability to stay focused on EMDR.
So, you might actually be in weekly therapy for multiple months ($1,000 x’s # of months) and still not feel fully resolved in the thing causing you stress right now.
EMDR intensives are cost effective and time efficient.
A typical EMDR Intensive looks like:
10-15 minutes of grounding, checking in, establishing session focus
160-210 minutes of EMDR reprocessing
10-15 minutes closing the session
You might fully resolve one or multiple stressors within half a day, costing around $1,000. Two to three hours of EMDR reprocessing is equivalent to at least double that amount of talk therapy sessions, so you’re doing more work in less time and needing less therapy overall.
You feel better, sooner.
You spend less on symptom-managing medications (that weren’t really working anyway).
You don’t have to keep taking time off of work or paying for childcare to attend your sessions.
If you’re in individual talk therapy, you can focus on present-day stressors rather than constantly getting triggered by the past.
About EMDR Therapist Julie Goldberg
Julie offers a unique, holistic approach to mental health and healing. She integrates Eastern and Western philosophies by mixing traditional therapy, coaching, and spirituality to help individuals better understand their inner world, befriend their nervous system (instead of working against it), and navigate changing relationships. Julie also specializes in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and offers psychedelic integration support.
Through her years of professional practice and own personal work, she has cultivated an approach to therapy that meets each person where they are on their healing journey. By understanding the roots of old wounds that so often manifest in everyday life as anxiety and/or depression, clients can expect to experience an increased sense of self and confidence, as well as a deeper understanding of what they value and how they want to show up in the world. Most importantly, clients will gain practical steps to live a life that is congruent with their true selves.
In her therapy work, Julie specializes in relationship issues, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and spiritual growth.
Julie received her EMDR training in 2020 with the EMDR Center of the Rockies and continues to receive monthly supervision with Dr. Arielle Schwartz, one of the world’s leading experts in somatic EMDR and complex PTSD.

Insurance does not reimburse for the full EMDR intensive, but you may be able to get reimbursed for part of it. If you have out-of-network benefits, most insurance companies will reimburse for 1-2 hours of the intake, 1-2 hours of the EMDR sessions, and 1-2 hours of the follow-up sessions. I provide all clients with a Superbill, which they can submit to insurance, and you can pay with HSA or FSA funds.
It's best to determine the exact details of your policy ahead of time, including what benefits are available regarding out-of-network providers and if your insurance will reimburse several hours of therapy in one day or one week. Please know that the insurance companies require a diagnosis code for treatment. I recommend calling the customer service number on the back of your insurance card in order to get details about your specific plan.

After your intensive session, it's important to practice self-care and allow yourself time to process the experience. You may experience a range of emotions as part of the healing process, and we're available to provide support and guidance as needed. We will discuss follow-up sessions or additional support options based on your progress and therapeutic goals.
Treat the days surrounding the intensive like a personal retreat. Schedule activities you enjoy around your intensive, such as yoga, massages, hiking, etc. Prior to your session, we recommend getting plenty of rest, staying hydrated, and preparing mentally for a focused therapeutic experience. Reflecting on your therapeutic goals and any specific memories or issues you wish to address during the intensive is helpful.
-
EMDR intensives offer several advantages, including accelerated healing, deeper processing of traumatic memories, and the ability to make significant progress in a shorter period of time. They are particularly beneficial for individuals who prefer a more concentrated and focused approach to therapy.
-
We offer mini-intensives (3 hours) or full-day intensives (6 hours). Mini intensives are available online or in person on Fridays. Full-day intensives are only offered in person in NYC and take 1-2 days. Typically, sessions begin at 10:00 AM and last until 5:00 PM, with several breaks in between and a one-hour lunch (a total of 6 hours of therapy throughout the day).
-
While EMDR is highly effective for many individuals, it may not be for everyone. We conduct a thorough assessment to ensure that EMDR is appropriate for your needs and circumstances. If EMDR is not recommended, we'll discuss alternative therapeutic approaches that may be more suitable for you.
-
The number of sessions varies depending on individual circumstances and therapeutic goals. Many clients experience significant relief after just one intensive session, while others may benefit from multiple sessions spaced over time. We'll discuss a personalized treatment plan during your free consultation call.
-
Each session is tailored to your specific needs and goals. We'll begin with a traditional intake to understand your history and current challenges. Sessions include traditional phases of EMDR therapy, including: preparation, desensitization, installation, and closure. We'll use bilateral stimulation techniques to facilitate deep reprocessing and relief from traumatic memories.
-
The main difference is the duration and focus. EMDR intensives offer extended sessions, allowing for more concentrated exploration and processing of traumatic memories or challenging life events. This can lead to quicker breakthroughs and deeper healing compared to traditional weekly sessions.
